Spreading the word about saving the world
Armed with expertise, funding and people power, universities have what it takes to be a force for good when it comes to protecting people and our planet.
For any public organisation trying to achieve something good in the world, reports are an essential tool to keep track of targets and demonstrate impact to the wider world. Each year, King's College London reports on its progress through their UN Sustainable Development Goals report.
Challenge
For a large university like King’s, being able to concisely communicate all the great work they’re doing isn’t an easy task. There are lots of projects running on different timelines across many departments. The team at King’s asked for our help in creating a consistent tone across all the many and varied initiatives - and use every word of every case study to make an impact.
What we did
Created compelling copy
Each of the 136 stories had to make sense in isolation – despite being a snapshot of a much bigger picture in many cases. This meant making sure every word added value.
Linked stories to strategic goals
With 17 goals in total, we helped highlight their progress across social, economic and environmental sustainability. Every story explicitly linked back to the Sustainable Development Goal for that section of the report, without being repetitive, to make it quick for readers to understand the impact.
Revitalised design
With a high volume of stories, we created a design that balanced copy and infographics to avoid large chunks of text and keep the reader engaged.
The results
In June 2024, it was announced that King's ranked in the top 2% of global universities for social and environmental impact. The University also achieved first in the world for SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production.
“Just want to again express our gratitude for all your hard work. We really appreciate your efforts in getting this report into tip-top condition.”
