Delivering 200 course descriptions

Edge Hill University have so much to offer students, from impressive industry links to the latest facilities. But, like many universities in the middle of the league tables, their marketing team are in a constant battle to keep up with the competition, attract the best prospective students and hit ambitious application targets.

With a brand new tone of voice, the marketing team knew it was time to tackle the mammoth task of rewriting their course descriptions. We’d already helped create new subject propositions, so were the perfect fit for the project and up to speed on everything Edge Hill offers students across different departments.

As their top recruitment tool, they asked for our help in making them as engaging and persuasive as possible. They needed all 200 courses to be on their new website within a couple of months. And all without access to the academics leading the courses.

What we did

Created a guide

As part of this project, we put together course description guide tips for writing each section. Not only was this a useful starting point for this project, it means future course descriptions will be consistent. 

Rewrote 200 courses  

Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses across all subjects, from animation to religion. We had to work from current courses so information was limited, but we uncovered the USPs and optimised copy with SEO keywords.

Built a specialist team 

We dedicated a team of our writers to the project. They were briefed extensively and became  experts in everything Edge Hill.

Managed the project 

With a project of this size, effective project management was critical. Our project management team  delivered the copy in batches and kept Edge Hill informed of our progress with regular updates and weekly calls at the height of the project.

The results

Despite delays and changes to the brief, we created a total of 200 courses ready for the launch of Edge Hill University’s new website. Each course was in line with new tone of voice guidelines, so helped strengthen the brand and bring consistency across communications. The clear and compelling descriptions will help students decide if Edge Hill is the right place for them.
